I was telling my sister that I would send a feeling of pain to my cat when she would poke her claws into my arm and I wonder if she learned to retract her claws when she kneaded my arm. She stopped clawing me, but I don't know exactly why. Also, I would send pictures of where I wanted her to sit on the couch... again, it seemed to work most of the time, but I have no way to verify the method.
